Sparks That Lit the Valley
Literary brushfires are burning in the Rio Grande Valley, and the writers in this collection are some of the sparks that set it off.
Ten years ago, five would-be writers started an open reading forum at the Narciso Martínez Cultural Arts Center in San Benito, Texas. The first of its kind in the region, the forum grew in size, and the members grew in skill. Several are now publishing regionally, nationally – even internationally. Even better, this group influenced other would-be writers to start their own groups and get writing. Valley literary life is hot and roaring!
In this anthology are short stories, essays, poems, songs and a play. Reflecting the bicultural nature of the Valley, the voices switch
between English and Spanish, often without warning, but always
in chorus.
Let this anthology spark you. Take to pen and podium – let your voice be heard!
